Manchester City are on the verge of bringing in one of Europe’s best forwards, but what shirt numbers could be available to Omar Marmoush upon moving in to the Etihad Stadium?

It has now widely been reported that after several days of relentless negotiations between all relevant parties, Manchester City and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached a full verbal agreement over a deal for the Egypt international forward.

The 25-year-old was identified by the Premier League champions as their number one attacking transfer target this month, whilst being aware that a deal would be difficult to complete given his importance to Eintracht Frankfurt and the timing of a move.

However, after it became clear that Marmoush himself was keen on a move and the player’s representatives had moved swiftly to verbally agree personal terms with Manchester City, negotiations were stepped up with the Bundesliga side.

Frankfurt officials had stood firm on their valuation, although it is now believed that in some capacity City may have reached an €80 million total package spend on the player including future add-ons and bonuses.

But what shirt number could Omar Marmoush select upon arrival at the Etihad Stadium and completion of his Manchester City medical and media duties in the coming days?

A range of different squad numbers are available to the Egypt international forward, including his now-iconic number 7 shirt worn in both of his seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt and last worn by Joao Cancelo at the Etihad Stadium.

Should Marmoush select the number 7 shirt, he would also follow in the footsteps of long-standing attacking star Raheem Sterling, as well as James Milner alongside the aforementioned Portugal international.

Marmoush’s most-recent shirt numbers away from Eintracht Frankfurt are both currently occupied by existing Manchester City players, with number 33 held at VfL Wolfsburg occupied by Scott Carson and 17 at VfB Stuttgart held by Kevin De Bruyne.

Squad numbers 12, 13, 14, 15 are all available, as well as 21, 22, 28, 29, and 30 in addition to a number of other higher figures in the squad.

The number 23 shirt number was retired by Manchester City in 2003 as a mark of respect to the late midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe.
