Nicolo Barella should be back from injury for Inter Milan against Roma after the international break.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Barella won’t be back before the break, but will return soon after.

Barella is currently on the sidelines with a thigh injury.

The 27-year-old picked up a strain to his right thigh during the Nerazzurri’s derby loss to AC Milan last month.

Barella started that match, having also started against Manchester City in the Champions League just a few days prior.

But Barella was not able to see out the full ninety minutes.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi took Barella off in the second half. The coach had already replaced the other two starting midfielders.

And after the match, Inzaghi revealed that the reason for the change had been fitness-related.

Nicolo Barella To Make Return For Inter Milan Vs Roma

Last week, Barella underwent medical tests as his issue from the derby proved to be persistent and prevented him from being able to return to training.

The tests showed that the Italian international had suffered a thigh strain.

Barella has yet to make a return to training for Inter.

The former Cagliari midfielder has so far missed two matches for the Nerazzurri. He was not in the squad for clashes with Udinese in Serie A and Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

And Barella will be on the sidelines for at least one match.

The Gazzetta report that there would be no chance of the 27-year-old returning in time for Inter’s last match before the October international break. They host Torino in Serie A on Saturday.

However, Barella should return to training during the break.

And then it seems fairly clear that Barella should be available for Inter’s first match back from the break, away to Roma.
