Yahoo Sports 🏴 Revealed: England squad played The Traitors at EURO 2024
England came so close to glory at last summer's European Championship, eventually agonisingly losing 2-1 to Spain in the final.
But while the tournament in Germany was captivating viewers across the continent, it was a very different game which was keeping the England players entertained behind the scenes.
As revealed by the Three Lions' official X account on Friday, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and co. played their own version of The Traitors at the team hotel, featuring Claudia Winkleman herself!
The Traitors - a British television smash hit - is a tense psychological adventure competition where 22 strangers are moved into a castle in the Scottish Highlands to complete a series of challenges and missions together as a team. The catch, however, is that amongst the loyal contestants hoping to win a cash prize of up to £120,000, three traitors are secretly lurking, sabotaging their efforts and picking off contestants one by one.

Following the popularity of the game ‘Wolf’ which had been played among the England squad at the @FIFAWorldCup in Qatar, a game of Traitors was organised for the duration of the group’s time in Germany. pic.twitter.com/F8uWLX5kuI

The England edition of ‘Traitors’ saw 36 members of the squad and backroom team involved and began a few days after their opening #EURO2024 fixture in Germany right through to the end of the tournament.

There were eight ‘traitors’ selected at random as the game began, with a round-table showdown then taking place every night, apart from days before matchdays and the matchdays themselves.

With a special firepit area at the team hotel, those daily debates about who was a 'Traitor' proved to be every bit as entertaining and emotional as the show itself, given the competitive nature of all the participants. pic.twitter.com/1T6o73TL7v

As more participants were banished at the firepit, those who were further culled by the Traitors were told when a letter was pushed under their hotel room door later that night, with their fate printed and written in a style similar to the popular game show. pic.twitter.com/gyZaS4Yybp

Eventually, after weeks of eliminations and ‘murders’ there were ten finalists remaining, which led to a tense showdown of traitors and faithfuls pitted against each other around the firepit.

It will be interesting to see what new boss Thomas Tuchel cooks up for his squad should they make it to the World Cup in 2026.
