AC Milan lost their fifth game of the season on Tuesday night against Napoli, and Paulo Fonseca is under pressure to turn things around.

According to what is being reported by La Repubblica, nobody at Milan imagined experiencing such a complicated and stormy start to the 2024-25 campaign. The reality of the facts, however, suggests that Fonseca ‘seems to have lost control of the team and the environment’.

La Repubblica’s section dedicated to Milan this morning has the headline: ‘Milan powder keg. Fonseca’s trial, tensions with Leao and in the dressing room’. It paints a rather damning picture about the current state of things.

The coach divided opinion when he was hired to replace Stefano Pioli during the summer as some fans wanted a more established name like Antonio Conte. Since then, there have been a series of debatable decisions and inconsistent results that up to this point have not been Milan-worthy.

Obviously the match against Monza on Saturday will be crucial because if the Rossoneri do not leave the U-Power Stadium with a victory then the title dream will be well over before it even really started.

If things continue to go badly then Massimo Allegri ‘remains in pole position’ to take over moreso than Igor Tudor and Eden Terzic, who remain ‘plausible alternatives’ at present.
