Yahoo Sports Vikings sign Dalvin Cook to five-year, $63 million extension
The Minnesota Vikings are keeping their Pro Bowl running back for years to come.
Dalvin Cook agreed to a five-year, $63 million extension with the team, the Vikings announced Saturday. Pro Football Talk and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network initially reported the signing.
The move ensures the Vikings won’t have to play franchise tag games with Cook. Prior to the extension, Cook, 25, was set to be a free agent following the 2020 season. There were rumors Cook would hold out in order to force the Vikings’ hand, but he reported to camp as usual. Before signing the extension, Cook said he planned to play Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.
Cook will make over $28 million guaranteed thanks to his new deal.
Dalvin Cook broke out for Vikings in 2019
The Vikings selected Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Cook’s NFL career got off to a rough start, as he tore his ACL just four games into his rookie season. He returned from the injury in 2018, and showed flashes of greatness during his second NFL season.
He built on that success last season, developing into a star runner. Cook started all 16 games for the Vikings in 2019, rushing for 1,135 yards and scoring 13 rushing touchdowns. He was also a solid receiver, gaining 519 receiving yards.
