Report: Seahawks answering calls about Russell Wilson trade inquiries

This time last year (or any year prior), the idea of the Seattle Seahawks considering a trade of Russell Wilson seemed unfathomable.

But it sounds like they're not ruling it out after Wilson's recent public airing of grievances and listing of teams not named the Seahawks that he's willing to play for. ESPN's Dianna Russini reported on Thursday that the Seahawks are fielding calls when teams reach out about Wilson.

Seahawks not making calls, per report

Russini walked back an earlier statement to the "Pat McAfee Show" that the Seahawks were also making calls on Wilson, which would signal an entirely different level of urgency. Doing due diligence on other teams' interest is one thing. Actively shopping a star quarterback is another.

But a willingness to entertain offers signals that the Seahawks aren't completely ruling out trading their seven-time Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning quarterback in his prime. It also means that teams are reaching out.

Speaking to the media for the first time since the end of last season, Wilson didn't care to talk about the game that’s helped make him famous. “To be honest with you, I don’t even want to talk about football right now,” Wilson said during a video conference Wednesday, June 3.

What teams are reaching out?

So which teams are testing the Wilson waters? That much was not reported. But the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints would be foolish not to. Those are the teams Wilson's agent Mark Rodgers said last week that he's willing to play for.

The Saints with an aging/possibly retiring Drew Brees have an obvious need. As do the perpetually quarterback-needy Bears. The Raiders and Cowboys don't have the same glaring holes at quarterback. Derek Carr is a three-time Pro Bowler in Las Vegas, and the Cowboys have a two-time Pro Bowler in Dak Prescott — that is if they can sign him.

But Wilson would be a no-brainer upgrade for all four teams. Kicking the tires on a trade makes sense. And for now, the Seahawks are reportedly hearing offers out. As they should be. No player should be considered "untouchable" if another team is willing to overpay.
