Report – Real Madrid’s plans for the left-back position this summer

Shortly after acquiring the services of Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s primary focus was to reinforce the ranks in the left-back position.

Alphonso Davies was immediately identified as the ideal target for Los Blancos, as they wanted to sign an upgrade for Ferland Mendy.

However, a lot has changed since, including the fact that Ferland Mendy has earned the trust of coach Carlo Ancelotti and may continue at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s plan in the left-back position

A recent report from Rodra P has offered an update on Real Madrid’s transfer plans this summer, particularly in the left-back position.

It appears the European giants are still keen on securing the services of Davies, despite failing to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich over the player’s valuation.

It must be noted that Davies’ contract at Bayern expires at the end of next season. It was initially thought that Bayern would risk losing the defender for free by keeping him at the club for another year.

However, after a busy summer that saw them sign multiple players so far, the club may have no option but to offload the Canadian this summer.

What about Ferland Mendy?

As far as Ferland Mendy is concerned, Real Madrid’s plan is not only to continue with the Frenchman next season but also to renew the defender’s contract.

Much like Davies, Mendy’s contract also expires in 2025. There wasn’t talk of a renewal for quite some time now, but a lot has happened in recent weeks.

Mendy, in fact, has reportedly rejected Real Madrid’s first contract offer, perhaps due to a lower salary and lack of clear prospects.

Negotiations, though, are still going on and both parties are optimistic about reaching a new deal in the coming future.
