New report puts €70m price tag on Chelsea target – which should price out Serie A giants
Chelsea’s January has so far been full of rumour and not much action, but talk of a really big signing continues.
Late last week it was David Ornstein who broke the news that Chelsea had interest in signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. It’s a slightly odd move given that attacking positions and winger are bottom of the list of areas this team needs additions.
Garnacho seems to have earned his place in the Manchester United squad back under Ruben Amorim, but it’s pretty clear there is a lot of tension there, and that in the summer a sale may well be sanctioned as the Portuguese manager gets to work on shaping the squad.
Today Ben Jacobs has picked up where Ornstein left off, adding more details about the potential move.
His Tweet today put Napoli at the front of the queue, claiming their manager Antonio Conte was had “driven” a move for the Spanish talent. It was also established that Garnacho’s agent had indeed been at Stamford Bridge last night.
Chelsea are “considering a bid” because they understand that United may “reluctantly sell at around €70m.”

Price tag enough to put off a lot of teams – should it put off Chelsea?
Napoli have money burning a hole in their pocket after selling Kvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG – but even they surely won’t spend €70m on a single player.
If Chelsea really think Garnacho is worth that sort of money and are willing to offer it, they can pay it. But surely the sale of Christopher Nkunku and/or Joao Felix should come first?
Either way, this looks much more like a move for the summer than now. The winger can resolve his position with United, and we can sort out our squad.
