Report Milan pay 4m for Uruguay international Canobbio
According to reports in Uruguay, Milan are on the verge of securing Athletico Paranaense talent Augustin Canobbio for €4m.
The 26-year-old is a versatile winger who plays primarily on the left flank, but can also work on the right or in a deeper trequartista role behind the striker.
He has 12 senior caps for Uruguay, in which he managed to score one goal and provided one assist.
Canobbio a fiery character
Canobbio was part of the Uruguay squad that finished third in the 2024 edition of the Copa America, even though he only made a brief substitute appearance in the semi-final against Colombia and then had a row with coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Athletico Paranaense bought the player from Penarol in March 2022 at a cost of €2.85m, but El Observador maintain that Milan have struck an agreement to sign him for €4m.
As part of that deal, Penarol would also receive a percentage of the fee, specifically €450,000.
There had also been interest from Boca Juniors, River Plate and Palmeiras, but Canobbio has his heart set on Europe.
This season, he contributed nine goals and seven assists in 48 games.
Milan have been linked with several wingers for the January transfer window.
