Report – Key argument that could support Barcelona’s case to register Olmo and Pau Victor
FC Barcelona are waging a crucial battle, both financially and sportingly, over the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have rejected the club’s request to reissue licenses to the players and re-register them, citing regulatory limitations.
The situation has led to the Catalans going to the Higher Council for Sports (CSD) for resolution, where they are seeking precautionary measures to register Olmo and Victor.
And, the Blaugrana may have received a major boost in their chances to succeed in their appeal before the CSD.
RFEF’s favourable report could help Barcelona
Indeed, according to RAC1, the RFEF has issued a legal report that acknowledges the possibility that the current regulations may not be entirely applicable to this specific case involving Barcelona.
This report, now in the hands of the club, will be one of the cornerstone arguments presented to the CSD in their request for interim relief that would allow Olmo and Pau Victor to play.
The RFEF report recognises that the regulation in question which was cited to deny the licenses for the Barça duo was designed for cases involving players who intended to terminate their contracts or other related scenarios.
The situation involving Olmo and Pau Victor, however, presents unique complexities. As a result, the Federation is already reviewing the rules, and future amendments may be introduced to avoid similar issues affecting other players.
While the report could provide significant leverage for Barcelona, the CSD will still need to decide whether it deems the argument compelling. Currently, the regulations are explicit, and the club has not complied with them.
Barcelona plan to present their full argument early tomorrow morning to the CSD, which will also seek counterarguments from both La Liga and the RFEF before issuing a decision.
A ruling is expected by the end of the week. Unfortunately for Barcelona, this timeline likely rules out Olmo and Pau Victor for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final vs Athletic Club, even though the duo are travelling to Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, there are indications that the CSD may be reluctant to intervene by granting precautionary measures, raising the possibility that the matter could escalate to the courts if unresolved.
