Report: Jadeveon Clowney 'expected to sign' with Tennessee Titans

Jadeveon Clowney is reportedly headed back to the AFC South.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported Saturday that the standout defensive end is “expected to sign” a contract with the Tennessee Titans.

However, NFL reporter Josina Anderson said Clowney’s decision was not final.

Clowney, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL draft, spent the first five seasons of his career with the Houston Texans before he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks last August.

Clowney played 2019 with the Seahawks before hitting free agency. He reportedly visited with the New Orleans Saints and had interest from several other teams this offseason.

In Nashville, Clowney would rejoin Mike Vrabel, who coached him for three seasons as the Texans’ defensive line coach. Vrabel, now in his third season as Tennessee’s head coach, led the Titans to the AFC championship game in 2019, where they fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Over his six NFL seasons, Clowney has accumulated 236 tackles, 71 tackles for loss and 32 sacks. His best statistical output came in 2017 when he compiled 59 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks for the Texans under Vrabel. That was one of his three Pro Bowl seasons in Houston.

Clowney battled injury during his lone season in Seattle, but made a big impact in the team’s wild card win over the Philadelphia Eagles with 1.5 sacks and a hit that knocked Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz out of the game.

Clowney eventually hit the open market and took his time before reportedly choosing the Titans just nine days before their Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
