Georgia running back Nick Chubb won’t play Saturday against Tennessee, according to his father who spoke to DawgNation.

Chubb suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter against Ole Miss last week and did not return.

“I don’t think he’s going to play,” Henry Chubb, Nick’s father, told DawgNation on Friday afternoon. “He’s got that high-ankle sprain. He twisted it trying to make a cut against Ole Miss. He’s in good spirits and all. He understands it. The doctor said he’d need a couple weeks, so he’ll probably play next week.”

Chubb missed most of last season after suffering a knee injury during the first play of last year’s game against Tennessee, but returned triumphantly by running for 222 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-24 win against North Carolina in the season opener. Chubb had 57 yards on 12 carries before his ankle injury last week.

Coach Kirby Smart has not ruled Chubb out of the game and said he continues to work to get back on the field.

“Nick’s doing all he can to make sure he can play in this game,” Smart said on his radio show Thursday night. “We’re hopeful that he can. But we feel better now because we have a lot of guys with experience. I sure wish and hope that 27 is out there.”

With Chubb out, the Bulldogs will start junior Sony Michel. Michel, who broke his arm three months ago in an ATV accident, missed the season opener, but has 23 carries for 106 yards this season.
