REPORT: Former Sharks Defenseman Nearing Extension With Oilers

Per Elliotte Friedman, former San Jose Sharks defenseman Ty Emberson and the Edmonton Oilers are working on a contract extension.

In Friedman's latest 'Written 32,' the NHL insider reported that it is "a good bet" that Emberson and the Oilers will reach an agreement before the season ends.

"Another good bet: Edmonton's Ty Emberson, looking strong after an initial adjustment," Friedman wrote.

Emberson was dealt from the Sharks to the Oilers, who sent Cody Ceci the other way.

Emberson was a restricted free agent during the summer of 2024 and signed a one-year $950K deal. In 38 games this season, he has four assists and has been a strong penalty-killer. If he doesn't sign an extension, he will be a Group Six unrestricted free agent after the season.

Emberson struggled at the start of the season, but his game has quieted as the season has gone along, which he feels is good.

Nothing is official yet, but the 24-year-old looks like he's found a home on one of the top teams in the NHL.
