Jaden Philogene, Hull City’s 22-year-old winger, has emerged as a target for Barcelona in recent hours.

Reports earlier today insisted that the youngster, who currently plies his trade in the second division of English football, was prioritising a move to the Premier League.

Considering that clubs including West Ham and Everton have registered interest in his services, a move to Catalonia appeared complicated.

A fresh perspective

Now, Jijantes FC provides an update on Philogene’s situation and it appears that the tables have turned.

As revealed by the Spanish outlet, the England U-21 attacker is open and keen to join Barcelona this summer. The club, on the contrary, are yet to make a serious attempt to sign him.

If the latest twist is to be believed, Philogene’s arrival in Catalonia is not as complicated as it initially appeared. The question, however, is whether the club will push for him as a priority signing.

A backup plan in all probability

Barcelona have been linked with several wingers in recent months and it is clear that Hansi Flick sees the arrival of a new name on the left to be of utmost importance.

Nico Williams is Barcelona’s dream target on that front, but his massive release clause makes his incorporation easier said than done. Uruguayan phenom Maxi Araujo is said to be well-placed as an alternative if the Spanish star cannot join the team.

Playing in the second tier of English football, Philogene thus appears to be the Blaugranas’ reserve option in case they fail to sign any of their better-placed targets.

Last season, the 22-year-old attacker scored twelve goals and provided six assists for Hull City in the English Championship. Further, he created seven big chances and averaged 1.6 key passes per game.
