The Los Angeles Chargers and pass rusher Joey Bosa have agreed to an extension that sets an NFL record for guaranteed money for a defensive player, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Bosa cashes in after paying off for Chargers

The Chargers drafted Bosa out of Ohio State with the third pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He has rewarded their investment by developing into one of the league’s most feared pass rushers.

Bosa tallied 10.5 sacks en route to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2016. He has been twice named to the Pro Bowl while tallying 40 sacks in four seasons including 2018’s injury-shortened campaign that saw him miss nine games.

He showed little sign of the foot injury that cost him most of 2018 when he tallied 11.5 sacks and 31 quarterbacks hits last season in his return to Pro Bowl form.

Bosa, 25, is now signed with the Chargers through the 2025 season. He is a centerpiece of the franchise as it prepares to open SoFi Stadium in Inglewood alongside the Los Angeles Rams.
