Report: Capitals Inform Teams They Want To Keep Both Lindgren & Thompson
The Washington Capitals have been alternating between Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson in goal throughout the 2024-25 campaign, and the team is perfectly content with keeping that strategy going forward.
Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts, Washington has informed teams that it wants to hold onto both Lindgren and Thompson, who are both pending unrestricted free agents.
Both netminders have fared well for the Capitals, who sit near the top of the league. That bodes especially true for Thompson, who Washington acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2024 NHL Draft.
Through 18 games, Thompson is 14-2-2 with a 2.38 goals against average and .916 save percentage. He's also among the NHL leaders in goals saved above expected.
Lindgren's numbers don't tell the whole story, as the 31-year-old has had some stellar outings for D.C. but not quite the same stat line. He is 10-8 with a .900 save percentage and 2.69 GAA through 18 games.
As Washington heads toward the spring and thinks about the future, where it could potentially add at the NHL Trade Deadline to gear up for a deep playoff run, the team is apparently not willing to part ways with their goalies as part of any potential packages or trade offers.
Beyond this year, it's unclear whether or not the Capitals are interested in continuing with a 1A/1B tandem or want to keep Lindgren or Thompson long-term, but for now, sticking with what's worked so far is the game plan going forward.
