REPORT: Canucks Thatcher Demko Back Skating Ahead Of 2024 Training Camp

Some potentially good news on the injury front for the Vancouver Canucks, as Thatcher Demko is reportedly back skating. According to Rick Dhaliwal of "Donnie and Dhali'," Demko is back working out on the ice, which is a positive sign that the Canucks goaltender could be ready during the preseason. Demko suffered multiple lower body injuries in 2023-24, including one in Game 1 of the first round against the Nashville Predators, which kept him out the rest of the postseason.

This offseason has been a stressful one for Vancouver when it comes to goaltending. Not only has Demko's recovery been slow, but according to the same report by Dhaliwal, Artūrs Šilovs is dealing with inflammation in his knee. While this injury is not thought to be serious, it did prevent Šilovs from representing Latvia in the Olympic qualifiers last week.

The last piece of news from Dhaliwal was about unrestricted free agent Kevin Lankinen. According to the report, the Canucks have had discussions with Lankinen, but the two sides could not agree on a contract. Last season with the Predators, Lankinen posted an 11-6-0 record with a .908 save percentage, a 2.82 goals-against average and one shutout.

Vancouver will be very busy in the next few weeks. The annual Young Stars tournament is scheduled for Sept. 13-16 in Pentiction, followed by Training Camp from Sept. 19-22, which is also set to take place in Penticton. The Canucks will then open up their preseason a few days later on Sept. 24 when they take on the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena.
