Report: Bears interested in Pete Carroll for head coaching vacancy

Chicago Bears fans received a Christmas surprise when it was reported that former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was interested in the team's head coaching vacancy. It appears the feeling is mutual.

Ahead of their game against Carroll's former team on Thursday Night Football, NFL insider Albert Breer revealed that the Bears are interested in talking with Carroll as well. "Yes, Pete Carroll has an interest in the Bears job, but that's not the only one he's looking at," Breer said. "I'm told he has informed all the teams with openings that he's looking to get back into coaching in 2025, and additionally, Charissa, I'm told that the Bears are interested in sitting down and having a conversation about their opening."

Breer also mentioned Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who continues to be the hot name connected to the Bears, as well as former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores as names to keep an eye on.

Carroll, however, is the latest name to pop up after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the initial interest. The 73-year-old Super Bowl-winning coach was with the Seahawks from 2010-2023 and compiled a record of 137-89-1, including 10 playoff appearances and a victory in Super Bowl 48. He and the Seahawks mutually parted ways after the 2023 season.
