Alabama sure has no problem bringing in recognizable names as offensive analysts.

According to a report from TideSports.com, former Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke will join the team as an offensive analyst. Weinke coached Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough at the IMG Academy in Florida.

Weinke spent the past two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams after five years as IMG’s director of football. He got into coaching after last playing in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers in 2007.

Weinke, 44, won the 2000 Heisman Trophy as a 28-year-old and is the oldest player to ever win the award. He threw for over 4,000 yards for the Seminoles, who lost in the Orange Bowl — the BCS Championship that season — to Oklahoma. He joined Florida State’s football team after playing minor league baseball.

He was a fourth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2001 NFL draft and spent six seasons with the team.

Alabama hired former Washington and USC coach Steve Sarkisian as an offensive analyst before the 2016 season. Sarkisian served in that capacity until offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin left to be the coach at Florida Atlantic and Sarkisian was promoted to replace him for the national title loss to Clemson.

After Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan became the San Francisco 49ers head coach, Sarkisian was hired as Atlanta’s offensive coordinator. Alabama announced last week that it hired New England Patriots tight ends coach Brian Daboll to be its new offensive coordinator.

Former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley also served as an analyst for Alabama in 2016. Because of NCAA coaching limits, analysts can’t have coaching contact with players but can be involved in things like breakdown of game film.
