Rennes are plotting a move to sign Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi (29), according to reports from L’Equipe and Ouest-France. Talks have reportedly been initiated for a while with both Furuhashi and Celtic. The Japan international currently flourishes under the tutelage of Celtic FC head coach Brendan Rodgers. Furuhashi has logged 12 goals and three assists in 29 games played this season with the Bhoys. The 29-year-old striker is tied with the Premiership giants with a contract set to expire in 2027.

Rennes urgently need a striker to bolster their attacking options to rival France U21 international Arnaud Kalimuendo. Algeria international Amine Gouiri (24) is the shadow of the player he once was. Henrik Meister (21) has been loaned out to Serie B side Pisa SC while former Celtic cult hero Jota (25) is shown the exit door. Jorge Sampaoli’s Rouge et Noir are 13th in the Ligue 1 standings and are averaging one point per game.

L’Equipe understands that Sampaoli is keen on signing Furuhashi but the same can’t be said about Rennes Sporting director Frederic Massara. Ouest-France adds that Celtic would be reluctant to part ways with Furuhashi now as they won’t be able to replace him on the UEFA lists for their last two remaining Champions League games against Young Boys and Aston Villa.
