Rennes’ Mikayil Faye subject of Bayer Leverkusen approach
Mikayil Faye (20) has been the subject of an approach from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, just six months after signing for Stade Rennais, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.
Faye made the move from Barcelona to Rennes in the summer, joining the Ligue 1 club in a deal worth just a little over €10m. However, the Senegalese centre-back, who made his debut for the national team back in March 2024, has struggled to impress at the Breton club.
He has featured just 10 times for Les Rennais and has been part of a back line that has been leaking goals throughout the campaign. Rennes’ defence is the joint-six-worst in Ligue 1 with the Breton club mired in a relegation battle. They are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.
However, that has not prevented Bayer Leverkusen from showing an interest in Faye. As per Romano, Bayer Leverkusen have identified the Senegal international as one of three targets for the centre-back position. Contact has already been made with the Rennes player, however, the French club’s stance on a departure is not yet known.
