After having seen Martin Pongracic’s deal being hijacked by Fiorentina, Stade Rennais have set their sights on Napoli’s Léo Ostigard (24) to strengthen their defensive unit. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the player is willing to join the Brittany side, who could seal the signature of the centre back on a €7M deal.

Despite Ligue 1’s TV rights issues and the absence of European football this season, Rennes have been one of the most active clubs in France this summer so far. While the Brittany side have recorded almost €70M in transfer sales following the departures of Enzo Le Fée (24), Martin Terrier (27), Alfred Gomis (30), Mathis Abline (21) and Jeanuël Belocian (19), they also managed to strengthen their squad with the additions of midfielders Glen Kamara (28) from Leeds United and Albert Gronbaek (23) from Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, while Mohamed Jaouab (22) came back after his buyback clause has been lifted less than six months after his transfer to Ligue 2 side Amiens.

Having set the signature of a new centre-back their priority, Rennes is set to seal Léo Ostigard’s deal, reports Gianluca Di Marzio. The Norwegian centre back never lived up to expectations at Napoli since his arrival from Brighton two years ago. Last season, the 24-year-old took part in 30 games across all competitions. Despite a contract running until 2026, the Italian outfit wants their player to find a new challenge and has placed a €7M valuation on Ostigard, who has accepted to join Rennes.
