According to Sud-Ouest, renewed talks between Bordeaux owner Gérard Lopez and Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) over a potential takeover have collapsed. The American sports investment firm believes that a future deliberation by the city’s council on the rent of the club’s stadium is not a sufficient financial guarantee and have now pulled out of negotiations.

FSG announced that they were withdrawing from negotiations to take over Bordeaux last week. With Les Girondins’ demotion hearing looming, the Boston Red Sox owners reopened negotiations to see if a potential solution to complete a purchase of the former Ligue 1 champions was feasible as confirmed by the city’s council.

Nevertheless, with a second attempt unsuccessful, the Liverpool owners have now withdrawn their offer and the potential takeover is off. Bordeaux’s demotion hearing is tomorrow and their financial troubles continue to drown the future of the club. With no potential solution in sight, the future of one of France’s biggest and most historic clubs hangs in the balance.
