Relevo: Liverpool hero to the third division – Origi’s misery at Milan continues
Divock Origi’s situation continues to appear a strange one from the outside looking in, as the striker has been left without a role at AC Milan.
Origi was signed in the 2022 summer transfer window on a free from Liverpool, where he had become a cult hero. The hope was that he could not only be a reliable deputy to Olivier Giroud but perhaps also challenge for a starting spot.
However, he scored just two goals in his first season with the club and Stefano Pioli quickly cast him aside. A loan to Nottingham Forest followed in 2023-24 but he returned after an unsuccessful return to England.
It was widely reported that the Belgian would finally depart Milan in the most recent summer transfer window, with MLS clubs linked. However, in the end a deal was never done so he remained.
According to Relevo, Origi is now by all intents and purposes an ‘Italian third division’ player, but he does not even play for Milan Futuro (Milan’s second team) because he has never been officially selected to the squad.
For now, the 29-year-old is only training with Daniele Bonera’s side, waiting to find a new club in January. At the end of August, Milan reached financial agreements with two mid-table Turkish clubs, but Origi rejected both.
