In regular-season finale, Xavier Restrepo accomplishes yet another Miami Hurricanes feat

Xavier Restrepo continues to make Miami Hurricanes history as his UM career begins to draw to a close.

With a 10-yard catch in the first quarter against Syracuse on Saturday, Restrepo became the first player in Hurricanes history to record multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons. The reception upped his season total to 1,001 yards at the time of the catch.

Restrepo finished the game with a team-high nine catches for 148 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season total to 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Restrepo last season had 1,092 receiving yards on a school-record 85 catches to become just the sixth player in school history with a 1,000-yard season. The others: Charleston Rambo (1,172 yards in 2021), Allen Hurns (1,162 yards in 2013), Leonard Hankerson (1,156 yards in 2010), Eddie Brown (1,114 yards in 1984) and Andre Johnson (1,092 yards in 2002).

Restrepo reaching Rambo’s single-season school record 1,172 yards isn’t necessarily out of reach, nor is Hankerson’s school record of 13 receiving touchdowns in a season. Restrepo entered Saturday with 10 touchdown catches.

The fifth-year senior, who is a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award given annually to college football’s top receiver, earlier this year set the school record for career receptions and career receiving yards.
