Who is the referee for Spain vs France?

Who is the referee for Spain vs France?

An idealistic Spain take on the risk-averse French with a place in the Euro 2024 final at stake on Tuesday night.

The summer tournament is edging towards a conclusion, and barring the odd mishap, the standard of officiating, especially during the knockout stages, has been excellent.

We can only hope that Tuesday's game in Munich is decided by Spanish majesty or French resistance as opposed to any refereeing controversy, and UEFA have put one of their leading officials in the hot seat for this grand occasion.

Here is everything you need to know about the man with the whistle at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.

Who will referee Spain vs France at Euro 2024?

44-year-old Slovenian official Slavko Vincic has been selected to take charge of the first Euro 2024 semi-final between Spain and France on Tuesday night.

Vincic has taken charge of just two games at Euro 2024 thus far, both in the group stages.

The Slovenian will be joined by assistants Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic at the Allianz Arena. Compatriot Nejc Kajtazovic will assume VAR duties, while Slovakian Ivan Kruzliak will be in between the two dugouts and operate as the fourth official.

How experienced is Slavko Vincic?

Vincic has plenty of experience having been listed as a FIFA official since 2010, but has only recently risen to mainstream - in the context of refereeing - prominence.

The 44-year-old has taken charge of high-profile UEFA club fixtures since 2020, including multiple Champions League and Europa League knockout stage games. After refereeing the 2022 Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers, Vincic oversaw the 2024 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Back home in Slovenia, Vincic has officiated the finals of three Pokal Slovenije - the primary domestic cup competition in the country. These notable achievements complement a rather impressive body of work which includes 244 Slovenian PrvaLiga, 31 Champions League, and 22 Europa League fixtures.

Euro 2024 is the third major tournament he's officiated at having previously been part of the refereeing groups at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

Has Slavko Vincic ever refereed Spain or France before?

Vincic has already taken charge of Spain at Euro 2024. The Slovenian referee was the man in the middle for their convincing 1-0 victory over Italy on Matchday 2 of the group stage.

Tuesday's semi-final will be the fifth Spain game he's officiated and third at the European Championships. He refereed a 0-0 draw with Sweden at Euro 2020, too.

Vincic has officiated three France matches, but their upcoming semi-final against the Spaniards will be the first at a major tournament. The 44-year-old has previously taken charge of a 2022 World Cup qualifier and Euro 2020 qualifier.

Neither nation has lost a game refereed by Vincic, so something's got to give in Munich!
