Red Wings Superstar Hits Legendary Milestone

That's one for the history books.

The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Washington Capitals 4-2 yesterday, and Patrick Kane will remember the game for a very long time. With a two-point performance, he wrote his name in the history books.

Before last night, 37 players had recorded 1300 points in their NHL careers. Kane is now number 38. Of those (now) 38 players, only Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin, and Sidney Crosby are active players to have reached the incredible milestone.

To put a stamp on it further, Kane is the second U.S.-born player to accomplish this. The only other American-born player to do it is Mike Modano, who finished his career with 1374 points.

In last night's game, Kane scored the Red Wings' second goal while on the powerplay. He also assisted on the eventual game-winner, which Alex DeBrincat scored.

He collected the two points in 17:34 of ice time.

Before Christmas, Kane was starting to find himself on the scoresheet more. He made his presence felt with four points in the five games preceding Christmas.

Perhaps a new coach and this milestone in the bag will be the spark Kane needs to take his game to the next level.

Despite sharing the basement with the Buffalo Sabres, there is a sliver of hope that the Red Wings can contend for a Wild Card Position. With only eight points standing between them and the second Wild Card spot, there is certainly runway to put together a run and get into the playoff picture.

Maybe Kane can hit another record or two to help the Red Wings get there.
