Red Wings Most Valuable Player Is Crystal Clear
You can't win them all.
In the case of the Detroit Red Wings, "all," in this instance, means the 17 games that they have walked away from this season without two points. With only 10 wins in 27 games, something needs to change for the Winged Wheel.
Lucas Raymond is doing what he can to turn the ship around. Unfortunately, he can't do it all by himself.
At this juncture of the season, Raymond is a rare bright spot for the Red Wings. His consistent point production and emergence as a driving offensive force make him so.
Leads Team In More Than One Category
For starters, Raymond leads the Red Wings in points. He currently has 28 points in 27 games, six points ahead of his next productive teammate. Alex DeBrincat is second on the team in scoring with 22 points, with Dylan Larkin coming in third with 21 points.
The young Swede is scoring a career-best 1.04 points per game. If he continues this production, he will finish the season with 85 points.
Additionally, the 22-year-old has become a powerplay wizard. He leads the Red Wings with 13 powerplay points. Surprisingly, 12 of those points have come in the form of assists.
DeBrincat and Larkin lead the Red Wings in powerplay goals with six apiece. But their combined totals of 11 and nine, respectively, fall short of the total impact that Raymond has had with the man advantage.
Raymond Is The Most Consistent Offensive Player
No one on the Red Wings roster has consistently produced more points than Raymond. Over the course of 27 games, Raymond has only gone seven games without registering a point. Everyone else on the squad has gone double digits.
DeBrincat has 11 pointless games this year, while the captain has 10 without a point.
Consistency is crucial to team success, and Raymond contributes the most. While he doesn't lead the team in goals (he's only two shy of the team lead), his ability to get on the scoreboard more often than anyone else on the team is an important part of winning games.

With his elite point production and consistency doing so, Raymond is cementing himself as the most valuable player on the Red Wings roster.
It's a shame a team can't win hockey games with just one player every night. If that were the case, Raymond could get the Red Wings two points most nights.
It's too bad he (Raymond) can't win them all.
