Mantha took exception to Muzzin’s late check and aggressively went after the blueliner. While the two were wrapped up, Muzzin’s leg was tangled with Mantha’s, leading to the forward hitting the ice awkwardly and landing on his head.
Both players received two-minute roughing penalties as a result of the encounter. After being helped off the ice, Mantha left the game and did not return.
Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said Mantha is being evaluated and will miss the team’s game against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.
Mantha has 12 goals and 24 points through 28 games this season.
Toronto defeated Detroit by a score of 4-1.
