Dylan Larkin doesn't want Red Wings fans to vote him into the All-Star Game

Some players were disappointed to be left off the NHL All-Star rosters announced Monday, but the Detroit Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin was not one of them.

Larkin still has the chance to be voted in on one of the “Last Men In” fan ballots, but he was honest about his preference to rest rather than play.

Larkin’s teammate Tyler Bertuzzi was the lone representative selected from the Wings this year, leading the club with 14 goals and 30 points in 40 games. Larkin, having an off season for his standards, has nine goals and 24 points in the same time frame.

Maybe a little extra rest could rejuvenate his point production, or just give his body a break.

He’s not alone on that idea.

Alex Ovechkin, voted Metropolitan Division captain last week, decided to skip the weekend to rest. Ovi is 34 years old and has been to 10 All-Star Games, plus the Capitals look poised to make another deep Stanley Cup run this offseason. Larkin, 23, has made one All-Star appearance in 2016, and the Wings hold the worst record in the NHL — by a mile.

Bertuzzi will be up against some tough competition to be voted in for the Atlantic Division. Stars like Patrice Bergeron, Steven Stamkos and Mitch Marner are also gunning for that final spot.

Voting for Last Men In begins on January 1, and closes Friday, Jan. 10, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
