Reason for concern? Tom Brady (knee) misses second straight Patriots practice

The New England Patriots were famous for years for messing with the NFL by listing Tom Brady with unofficially the longest-running shoulder injury in league history.

But this time we don’t think they’re fudging on Brady’s current ailment.

According to the Boston Herald, Brady now has missed two straight days of practice with a knee injury, which puts his availability in a bit of doubt for Sunday against the New York Jets.

The exact origin of the injury is unknown, but it could be related to the hard, low hit Brady took two weeks ago from Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, although Brady indicated that was more of a quad injury and it wasn’t listed on last week’s report. Brady played every snap against the San Francisco 49ers and appeared to move around without issue.

Brady still has Friday to practice, and to be frank, he probably could inform head coach Bill Belichick 90 minutes before kickoff that he’s good to go even if he does miss his third straight practice.

But Herald reporter Jeff Howe wrote last week — as it related to Rob Gronkowski’s availability against the 49ers — that the Patriots hadn’t had a player miss Wednesday-Thursday-Friday practices since at least 2008, perhaps longer.

Brady is still expected to play Sunday, but there’s at least a shadow of a doubt. Whenever he next takes the field, he’ll be gunning for his 200th NFL victory — and pumped full of truth serum, Brady might admit that logging it against the rival Jets (and former teammate Darrelle Revis) could make it extra sweet.
