‘When they really want a player…’ – Bayer Leverkusen star speaks on Barcelona links

A recent addition to the midfield ranks at Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen has on Tuesday responded to prior speculation, linking him with a move to Barcelona.

The player in question? Aleix García.

The name of midfielder García, at one point in the not-so-distant past, of course took its place front and centre in the headlines in Barcelona.

As much came amid widespread claims that the Girona star was being eyed up by his side’s Catalan neighbours, amid their ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park.

When all was said and done, García, as alluded to above, opted to take his talents to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, in a deal with the potential to rise to €20 million.

Speaking in an interview with Barcelona reporter Gerard Romero of Jijantes (as cited by Diario Sport) this week, though, the subject of his prior Blaugrana links was put to the Spanish international once more.

And García went on to pour cold water on as much, adamant that, if Deco and co. had really wanted him, they would have made more of an effort to find a deal with Girona:

“There were calls between my agent and Deco, but there wasn’t real interest from Barça. When they really want a player, they carry out the negotiation.”
