Real Sociedad and Getafe negotiating deal for striker, operation to cost €15-20m

Real Sociedad are in desperate need of a prolific striker. Imanol Alguacil’s options for the 2023-24 campaign – Andre Silva, Umar Sadiq and Carlos Fernandez – all failed to impress, which often led to Mikel Oyarzabal being deployed as a 9. For next season, the intention to sign a new attacker, with Sadiq and Fernandez also likely to be moved on (Silva has already returned to RB Leipzig).

As of right now, La Real’s top target is Borja Mayoral. Guipuzcoa News (via Relevo) have reported that negotiations with Getafe are already ongoing, with a deal likely to cost in the region of €15-20m.

La Real can afford it, given that they are about to pocket €30m for the sale of Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid. Mayoral is pushing to leave Getafe this summer, on the back of an impressive 15-goal season in La Liga, which was ended prematurely after he suffered a serious knee injury in March.

If a deal for Mayoral can be wrapped up, Real Sociedad would have a threatening-looking forward line going into next season. The prospect of Oyarzabal, Mayoral and Takefusa Kubo lining up together is a very welcome thought for fans of the Basque giants.
