Real Madrid secured an emphatic 5-1 victory over RB Salzburg last night in their penultimate league phase match of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

A double from both Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, along with a Kylian Mbappe strike sealed the win for the reigning champions at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Last night also turned out to be a special occasion for young Jacobo Ramon who made his official first-team debut for Real Madrid.

The Castilla starlet was part of the pre-season camp with the senior squad and appeared set for a role under Carlo Ancelotti but back-to-back injuries held him back.

Last night, though, he got his chance in front of a packed Bernabeu as he came on to replace Antonio Rudiger for the final 15 minutes or so.

Ramon reacts after debut

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after his debut, Ramon could not contain his joy and excitement as he stated that he had been dreaming of this moment for a long time.

“I am very happy. I have always dreamed of this and I cannot explain in words what I am feeling right now. It is incredible,” said Ramon.

“Since I was a child and in these past few months, when I have been so close, I dreamed of it every day. Finally, the moment has arrived, and I am very happy.”

Expressing gratitude to his parents, the young Spaniard added: “My parents took me to Valdebebas every day, and they would stay in the car for hours and hours. This is for them. I am eternally grateful. They have helped me in the good times and the bad.”

On being asked what his teammates told him after his debut, Ramon revealed: “They congratulated me and wished me well. Playing with the best is a pleasure. I can only thank them.”

Finally, the youngster also hailed the Real Madrid academy, saying: “The academy does an exceptional job, and there are many more boys ready. You will see that in the future.”

Ramon became the sixth youth team player to make his senior debut this season, following in the footsteps of Raul Asencio, Daniel Yanez, Lorenzo Aguado, Diego Aguado, and Chema.

Ramon’s fellow academy graduate, Raul Asencio, also spoke to the media after the match, where he congratulated the youngster on his debut while also expressing his happiness at the team’s performance.

Regarding Ramon’s debut, Asencio said (h/t RealMadrid.com): “I am very happy for him. He is a guy I have known for a long time, and he has been doing very well with Castilla. I hope that many other players who are fighting for this dream can achieve it.”

Talking about the team’s win on the night, he added: “We achieved the objective, which was to win. We played a good team game, both collectively and individually. The plan has been perfectly executed.”

On being asked to play at right-back in the latter stages of the game, Asencio said: “I will try to perform as best as I can, wherever the coach requires me. I want to make the most of the opportunities I get and enjoy every minute I can have at this club.”

Concluding, Asencio spoke about how it feels to be in the first-team dynamics at Real Madrid, saying:

“The goal is to take it as naturally as possible and try to enjoy and make the most of wearing this shirt, which is the greatest thing in the world. I try to learn every day from my teammates, both as players and as people.”
