Real Madrid are seriously worried about the workload on players ahead of the new season. While there has been growing concern about the hectic schedules in recent times, the 2024/25 season could break all records for Los Blancos.

As revealed in a recent update by MARCA, the men in white could face up to 72 games in the upcoming campaign across seven different competitions.

To say that physical preparation will be of utmost importance would thus be an understatement.

The numbers at a glance

Real Madrid’s upcoming campaign will begin with the European Super Cup on August 14. They will then move on to participate in La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and the new 2025 Club World Cup.

The bare minimum number of games for Real Madrid, assuming early elimination in all competitions, comes to 53, with 38 in La Liga, one each in the knockout events, three in the Club World Cup and eight in the revised UEFA Champions League.

Given the team’s calibre, they will go far more often than not and will thus approach, if not hit, the 72-game mark.

In fact, the report also furthers that Real Madrid’s season could well end on July 13, 2025, if they make it to the very end.

Serious concern at the club

The most games Real Madrid have played across all competitions in a season stands at 66 in the 2001/02 season. Needless to say, there is a good chance that milestone is beaten this time around.

Considering that the aforementioned numbers exclude player participation for their national teams during various international breaks, there is serious concern at the Valdebebas over player fitness and well-being.

After all, a player can play up to ten games in the year with their national teams, taking their theoretical tally to 82 games, almost one game in every four days throughout the year.
