The other finished fifth in its domestic competition and has won just one Champions League title.

Real Madrid enters the final against Borussia Dortmund as a heavy favorite. Winning the UEFA Champions League is part of Real Madrid's DNA; it owns a record 14 titles in the competition, with seven of those titles coming since 2000.

Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, is making just its third UEFA Champions League final appearance. And while Real Madrid was cruising to its 36th La Liga title during the 2023-24 season, Borussia Dortmund finished a disappointing fifth in the German Bundesliga.

2023-24 season: Borussia Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga, 27 points behind champion Bayer Leverkusen (who completed the campaign undefeated). Borussia Dortmund also had a disappointing experience in the German domestic club cup competition, the DFB Pokal, getting bounced in the Round of 16 by VfB Stuttgart.

Manager: Edin Terzić. The 41-year-old Terzić has been with Dortmund since 2018, but became full-time manager in 2022. As an interim manager, Terzić helped lead Borussia Dortmund to the DFB Pokal title in 2021.

Leading goal scorer(s): Niclas Füllkrug and Donyell Malen tied for the team lead with 15 goals scored in all competitions this season. Malen led the team with 13 goals in Bundesliga play. Look for Füllkrug (Germany) and Malen (Netherlands) to make impacts for their respective national teams at the upcoming European Championships.

Real Madrid: What to know

He won the UEFA Champions League twice as manager of AC Milan (2003 and 2007) and twice as manager of Real Madrid (2014 and 2022).

Leading goal scorer(s): Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior tied for the team lead with 23 goals in all competitions this season. Bellingham led Real Madrid with 19 goals scored in La Liga play. Expect to see Bellingham (for England in the Euros) and Vinícius Júnior (for Brazil in Copa America) to featuring prominently for their respective national teams this summer.
