Real Madrid hosted Alavés in LaLiga on Tuesday evening.
Here’s what happened.
Real Madrid survive late scare to overcome Alavés
Scorers: Vásquez 1′, Mbappé 40′, Rodrygo 48′; Benavídez 85′, García 86′
Real Madrid conceded two late goals at home to Alavés, making their 3-2 win more fraught than it needed to be.
The home side were lightning quick out of the blocks as Vinícius Júnior got to the by-line and pulled back a lovely ball that set up Lucas Vásquez to finish after just one minute.
Just before half time, Kylian Mbappé wowed the Bernabéu crowds with a sublime finish just inside the box after being slipped in perfectly by Jude Bellingham.
Things went from bad to worse for Alavés when Rodygo went on a solo run down the right-hand side, leaving the defenders for dead and slotting home from a tight angle.
Substitute Endrick was unlucky not to add to the tally with a strike that rattled the crossbar.
Alavés got themselves what appeared to be a consolation goal as Carlos Benavídez netted with a stunning side-footed effort from outside the box with five minutes of normal time remaining, but then a second goal in quick succession made things really uncomfortable for the home side.
