While Arda Guler continues to face stiff competition for a starting spot at Real Madrid, his aura with the Turkish national team continues to grow.

The youngster has become an integral part of the national team setup now, so much so that he is the centre of attention every time Vincenzo Montella’s men take to the field.

Called for international duty once again in the ongoing hiatus, the Real Madrid star started both of Turkey’s games, completing 83 minutes against Montenegro and 89 against Iceland.

He even scored a goal in the second game, thus helping the team to a famous 4-2 rout in Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League.

Guler speaks on his form

Speaking to the media after the game, Guler expressed his happiness not only over the result but also his personal contribution to the Turkish outfit.

“We are very happy to have won today. We came from a difficult path to a complicated field, but we are a team that never gives up,” said Guler.

“We are very happy and proud to have won. There is no greater motivation than winning to make our people happy,” he added.

Commenting on his goal, Guler gave full credit to the assist provider: “Making that pressure at that time was incredibly valuable and I owe it to Kerem Aktürkoğlu (Benfica striker). I am very happy to have scored a goal and to have helped.”

Finally, the Real Madrid star spoke openly about how regular minutes help him grow, possibly even referring to the relative lack of importance he faces under Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

“I’m very happy to play. The minutes I have help me improve. I am grateful to our people, we will try to continue making them happy like today,” he said.
