Real Madrid still have several players at the ongoing European Championship in Germany, which reaches its quarter-final stage on Friday. One of the few players to have not yet started a match is Eduardo Camavinga – the 21-year-old has also only appeared in two of France’s four matches so far.

It’s not been an easy tournament for Camavinga, although he could get his chance to make his mark on Friday when France play Portugal. Adrien Rabiot is suspended, which opens a starting berth up in Didier Deschamps’ midfield.

As per MD, Camavinga is one of three options to replace Rabiot, with the others being Youssouf Fofana and Ousmane Dembele (Antoine Griezmann would move centrally in this case). Guy Stephan, Deschamps’ assistant, discussed the possibility of Camavinga starting against Portugal.

“Camavinga is a left-footed midfielder, he likes to occupy spaces and participate in the game. He is very, very active with the ball, he protects the ball very well. He is capable of playing from area to area, of playing forward, of recovering the ball. He is very complete.”

The fact that Camavinga – like Rabiot – is left-footed could end up working in his favour. We will know on Friday evening whether the Real Madrid star is counted upon for France against Portugal.
