Real Madrid star rejects chance to return to international football
Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois has rejected the opportunity to link back up with Belgium on the international front.
That’s according to Real insider Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, who has on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.
Courtois, for his part, announced his decision to make himself permanently unavailable for selection to his country this past August.
As much came after Belgian head coach Domenico Tedesco opted against calling the shot-stopper up for the European Championships, following his return from a long-term spell on the sidelines.
Courtois, hurt by as much, made clear that he had no intention of lining out under Tedesco’s watch in the future, either.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then this stance looks unlikely to change any time soon.
As per a report from The Athletic:
‘Belgian FA CEO, Peter Willems, travelled to Madrid last week to meet with Courtois to test the waters over a possible return to playing for the national team.’
The 32-year-old, however, made clear in no uncertain terms that, as long as Tedesco is on the bench, he will not play for the Red Devils.
