Real Madrid suffered another disappointing defeat at the hands of FC Barcelona last night, losing 2-5 in the finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

The defeat once again laid bare the problems that the Merengues have in the defensive unit, with the Barça attacking unit of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal running roughshod.

Lucas Vazquez was all over the place at right-back while Aurelien Tchouameni did little to justify Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to start him as a centre-back ahead of Raul Asencio.

No new CB signing in January

Despite the situation being as it is, MARCA reports that Real Madrid have completely ruled out the idea of signing a new centre-back in the January transfer window.

There will be a meeting soon between Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sanchez, and Ancelotti to analyse the Super Cup debacle and find out solutions.

As reported earlier, the possibility of making another move for Trent Alexander-Arnold this month remains very much on the agenda.

However, Real Madrid are also clear that they will not go after a new centre-back in the current transfer window.

With David Alaba set to return imminently and the option of Raul Asencio also available at the manager’s disposal, Los Blancos believe that they can manage the situation even though Eder Militao is out for the season.

As such, no central defender will be brought in this month, although a new player for the position could be signed in the summer transfer window.
