Real Madrid reach total renewal agreement with defender until 2027 – all the details

In a huge update, Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA reports that Real Madrid have reached a total agreement with key defender Ferland Mendy over a new contract.

The 29-year-old’s renewal had become a priority for the Merengues, with manager Carlo Ancelotti urging the club to tie down the Frenchman especially with his existing contract expiring in 2025.

Now, it is being suggested that Real Madrid and Mendy have reached a complete agreement over his contract renewal with only the signing of the deal remaining pending at this point.

The former Olympique Lyon man will be officially putting pen to paper on the new contract once he returns from vacation after having been part of the France squad at the UEFA Euro 2024.

Carlo Ancelotti asked for an effort to ensure the defender’s continuity. The Italian considers him a key player and knows that together with Fran Garcia he has a pair of guaranteed full-backs to face the season, especially with Alphonso Davies now unlikely to join this summer.

As mentioned earlier, Mendy’s current contract would expire next year and now the 29-year-old left-back is understood to have agreed an extension until the summer of 2027.

The deal will also contain an option for a further season depending on the number of games played by the French international.

The main focus of much of the contact with the winger’s agent has been precisely the number of games Mendy has played since he arrived at Real Madrid due to injuries, and things finally improved for him last season.

As such, the report suggests that the final salary that the Frenchman receives as part of his new contract will depend on the number of matches he plays each season.
