Real Madrid’s pursuit of 23-year-old Bundesliga speedster entering the final stretch
Summer after summer, Real Madrid look for top players to add to their squad and thus extend the already golden artillery at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal.
Sound management of finances helped the Merengues land Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer. Their third target, Alphonso Davies, however, did not arrive.
Real Madrid were in negotiations with Bayern Munich over the Canadian star’s transfer but opted to defer the operation to next summer when it became clear that the Bavarians were not flexible on price.
After all, his contract with the German club ends next summer and the plan to sign him as a free agent is on.
The road points to Madrid
As revealed in a recent update by AS, the signing of Davies is now close to the home stretch.
The left-back has resisted all of Bayern Munich’s advances for a contract renewal, much to the satisfaction of Real Madrid, and is set to run down his deal in June.
As of January next year, in fact, the 23-year-old will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice and Real Madrid are hoping the days tick by faster.
At this point, it is almost certain that Davies will leave as a free agent and that Real Madrid will get their man on a free transfer yet again.
The Spanish giants must only negotiate the signing-on bonus with the defender which is far less complicated than dealing with Bayern Munich.
While the player can indeed sign a pre-agreement as early as January it remains to be seen if Los Blancos opt for such an early written agreement or run on the verbal trust for longer.
In all probability, written confirmation will only be finalised towards the end of the season as the club does not wish to ruin relations with the Bavarian giants.
