La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Saturday been dealt a fresh blow on the injury front.

This comes amid confirmation that a member of the club’s defensive ranks looks set to sit out their upcoming tour of the USA.

The player in question? Jesús Vallejo.

Stopper Vallejo is for his part fresh off a return to base in Spain’s capital, after an injury-ravaged campaign on loan with Granada.

The 27-year-old had since turned heads owing to his stellar commitment in pre-season training, with a view to carving out for himself a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the campaign ahead.

Amid something of a personnel crisis at the heart of defence in Madrid, Vallejo and Los Merengues alike will therefore no doubt consider it a blow to hear of the Spaniard suffering a fresh fitness blow.

As per a report from The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Vallejo this week picked up an unspecified muscular problem in training.

He is as a result expected to sit out the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The only fit senior central defenders at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti for the tour, as a result, look set to be Antonio Rüdiger, and Éder Militão.
