Real Madrid president firmly against January signing for key position after veteran star’s display vs Sevilla
Real Madrid ended their 2024 with a thumping win over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.
Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde were the obvious stars of the show for Los Blancos but one other player who made a big impression was Lucas Vazquez.
The veteran right-back has been under the cosh due to some iffy displays, especially in big games, leading to question marks over his place.
Real Madrid president, hierarchy rule out new RB in January
However, following last night’s match against Sevilla, where Vazquez performed brilliantly, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is believed to have made it clear to manager Carlo Ancelotti that there will be no new right-back signed in January.
This report comes from Defensa Central, who claim that the Real Madrid president’s sentence to Ancelotti was very clear: “Don’t ask me for another right-back after today’s events.”
For the Madrid leadership, the presence of Vazquez and the possibility of rotation with other first-team players are more than enough with Fede Valverde and Raul Asencio considered as viable alternatives.
Vazquez put in an all-round performance against Sevilla being solid in attack and reliable in defence, and it has seemingly convinced the club hierarchy that there is no need for reinforcements next month.
With Dani Carvajal out for the season, his fellow veteran Spaniard will continue as Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back while Asencio and Valverde, if needed, will provide cover in the position.
