The future of Alphonso Davies has been in focus lately, in the wake of recent key developments, which may ultimately culminate into the defender leaving the club.

Indeed, recent reports suggest Davies has rejected Bayern Munich’s latest contract extension offer, in the biggest yet indicator of his desire to leave Bavaria at the end of the season.

Real Madrid, to that end, were one of the clubs hopeful of signing Davies on a free transfer next summer. But they were unsure of their chances of signing the Canadian international, as they believed the player might end up staying in Bavaria.

Renewed hope for Real Madrid

Shortly after Davies’ rejection to Bayern Munich, there is renewed hope in the Real Madrid camp surrounding the pursuit of the left-back.

This is according to Jorge Picon, who suggests that Real Madrid extremely optimistic about signing the defender on a Bosman deal in the coming summer.

Everything suggests Davies, too, is keen on joining Real Madrid. If stars align, he could become the third Bayern player to join Real Madrid on a free transfer over the past decade or so.

The last two players were Toni Kroos and David Alaba. Davies will be hoping he can follow on their footsteps, given the sheer pedigree of the two players.

Meeting soon in Madrid

As for Real Madrid, there are green signals everywhere, as the report adds that Davies’ agent could travel to Madrid in the near future to hold a meeting with Los Blancos bosses.

The meeting will likely involve Davies’ agent putting forth his final demands, thereby leaving the ball on Real Madrid’s court.

The performances of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia this season have been enough to suggest that Real Madrid require the services of someone with a bit more consistency and quality.

Davies would fit the bill perfectly. The club, therefore, cannot squash the opportunity to sign the Canadian international, even if his contract ends up costing a fortune.
