The biggest development coming out of the transfer market today is a swift change of fate in Leny Yoro’s transfer saga.

For a while, Real Madrid were touted as the frontrunner in the race to sign the young LOSC Lille defender. But in recent days, Man United have stolen a march on Real Madrid’s pursuit and could soon acquire the player’s services.

Yoro, in fact, is reportedly gearing up for a trip to England, where he will complete his medical and agree personal terms with Manchester United.

How Real Madrid were beaten in Yoro race

This speculation has been confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has offered more perspective to the defender’s transfer saga.

While confirming that Yoro is indeed set for a trip to England, Romano claims the defender is set to sign a contract until 2029, which was agreed yesterday.

There was hope Yoro would hold out for a move to Santiago Bernabeu, but it appears the defender was tired of waiting and gave in to Man United’s lucrative proposal.

Real Madrid’s plan was to either force Lille to accept their offer or sign the player on a free transfer next summer. But Man United did not give up and are soon expected to finalise the deal, Romano adds.

Real Madrid’s firm message to Leny Yoro

Real Madrid were offered the chance to meet Manchester United’s bid worth around €62 million, but the reigning European champions had no desire to pay such an amount.

In fact, Real Madrid’s bid for Yoro was around €25 million, which is less than half of what Manchester United were willing to offer.

Sure enough, LOSC Lille instantly accepted the offer. Real Madrid were aware of the offer as well, but their message to Yoro was clear, “If you want to be a Real Madrid player, you have to understand our strategy and our timing. Otherwise, you’re free to go wherever you want.”
