It has not been a good day for the Real Madrid offices. After all, the club’s top defensive target Leny Yoro is closing in on a move to Manchester United, dealing a significant blow to the Merengues.

With Nacho Fernandez no longer at the club as well, Carlo Ancelotti faces a selection dilemma at centre-back.

Moreover, the club sold Rafa Marin earlier this summer, giving away their best academy prospect in the position.

Real Madrid’s clear stance

With the new season less than a month away, Los Blancos are in dire need of depth at centre-back. Such conditions, one would assume, warrant the manager to count on every resource at his disposal.

According to a recent update from Jose Felix Diaz, however, Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti see it differently. The club only see the squad to have three players in the position – Eder Militao, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.

The fourth centre-back in the squad, Jesus Vallejo, has no place in the manager’s plans despite having a squad number.

Even with Alaba still recovering from an ACL injury, the Spaniard will not get a chance at the Spanish capital.

Vallejo’s decision

As revealed earlier today, the 27-year-old has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer despite knowing his situation well.

After numerous loan stints since he joined Real Madrid in 2015, the defender wishes to stay at the club for one final year and see his contract out.

The Merengues will not force Vallejo out but will not provide him with inroads into the team either according to the latest development.

All eyes, thus, are on Florentino Perez’s next move on the transfer market for a new signing is now a necessity.
