Real Madrid no longer looking for a new left-back after Alphonso Davies snub
Real Madrid had their hopes pinned on the free-transfer signing of Alphonso Davies for the summer of 2025.
After all, the 24-year-old Canadian international’s contract with Bayern Munich would expire at the end of the ongoing season, making him a free agent.
There were multiple reports of a verbal agreement being in place over a transfer in the summer, but in the end, Los Blancos will not be signing the left-back as he is on the verge of renewing his contract with Bayern.
Indeed, following the Bavarian giants’ putting forth a lucrative contract proposal, Davies has decided to renew his deal and continue at the Allianz Arena, leaving Real Madrid hanging.
Real Madrid will not pursue a new LB
After news of Davies’ imminent renewal emerged, it was rumoured that Real Madrid would likely look at former academy ace Miguel Gutierrez as Plan B, considering they have an €8 million buyback clause for him.
However, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid are not actively looking for a new left-back now that Davies has slipped out of their hands.
The Merengues were only interested in the Bayern Munich speedster as they saw him as a market opportunity too good to turn down, given that he would have been a free agent in the summer.
But with Davies deciding to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga giants, Real Madrid are no longer pursuing another left-back.
As it stands, Carlo Ancelotti has Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia as his options. While the latter is tied down to a contract until 2027, the veteran Frenchman has also signed a new deal for two years, although it is yet to be announced.
Either way, there appear to be no immediate plans at Real Madrid to scour the market for an alternative for Davies, who will soon commit his future to Bayern Munich.
