Florian Wirtz was one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market this past summer, but the German opted to remain at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, all eyes will be on Wirtz’s future in the summer of 2025, when the star playmaker is more than likely to leave the club.

Needless to say, Real Madrid are among the clubs interested in the services of Wirtz, as they look to shore up their ranks in the creative department.

Real Madrid to face stiff competition

A recent report from Florian Plettenberg has offered a fresh update on the future of Wirtz, suggesting that Real Madrid are not the only club keen on his services.

In fact, the reigning Spanish champions are set to face stiff competition from the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, in the race to sign the German international.

Man City have shown the most concrete interest so far, along with Bayern. However, Leverkusen’s idea is to convince Wirtz to sign a contract extension.

Even if Wirtz does not extend his contract, Leverkusen do not want to sell their star player to a direct rival like Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid move considered unrealistic

Plettenberg, though, adds that Leverkusen consider a Real Madrid move for Wirtz could be unrealistic at the moment.

Although it remains unsure as to why exactly the German giants do not envision a Real Madrid move for Wirtz next summer, but it might have to do with the fact that the Spanish giants may offer considerably lower fee than the likes of Man City or Arsenal.

However, the final decision will be made by Wirtz himself, who will be more than aware of the fact that Xabi Alonso is a coaching candidate for Real Madrid next season.

Hence, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the German international.
